ZAGREB, Jan 26 (Hina) - The Croatian Agriculture and Forestry
Ministry on Friday issued a statement about the measures it took
between January 19 and 26 aimed at protection against 'mad cow'
disease, including orders banning the import of cows, beef and bone
meal.
Decisions adopted in the said period include a decision banning the
import of cows, beef and fodder of animal origin from
Belgium, Italy and Denmark.
Also adopted was an order banning the import of dog and cat food from
all countries where 'mad cow' disease has been reported and those
which are on the import ban list, as well as a decision banning the
use of proteins of animal origin (bone meal and other types of meal
used as animal fodder).
The Ministry also announced its opinion on food in child care
centres. Regarding public sensitivity toward the most vulnerable
part of the population, pre-school age children, the ministry
believes that the use of food other than beef in child day care
centres would contribute to lessening public concern, the
statement read.
