ZAGREB, Jan 18 (Hina) - The Agriculture and Forestry Ministry on Thursday issued a statement refuting yesterday's media allegations to the effect that the government suppressed the whereabouts of 134 cows imported in December from the
mad cow disease-plagued Austria. According to the statement, 67 heifers with calf were imported from Austria in two shipments, "in line with the law and from a country which, at the time of import as now, is officially free of mad cow disease." The agriculture ministry as the competent body, is in charge of monitoring the movement of infectious diseases in animals. According to the statement, it never concealed certain data, but informed the public in timely and transparent fashion and will continue to do so.(hina) ha
