ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - At Thursday's session the Croatian Government adopted its main programme tasks for this year. The tasks are divided into 37 items and their realisation should result in the adoption of a development strategy
dubbed "Croatia in the 21st Century". The fulfilment of the tasks will contribute to better results in economy with an increase in production, services and exports, and a fall in unemployment. Furthermore, the privatisation process of the state portfolio is expected to be completed as are preparations for implementing health and pension insurance reforms. Expected are also the decentralisation of state functions and modernisation of the state administration and public services, as well as the promotion of political and economic relations with neighbours and the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU. Government adopted its main programme tasks for this year. The
tasks are divided into 37 items and their realisation should result
in the adoption of a development strategy dubbed "Croatia in the
21st Century".
The fulfilment of the tasks will contribute to better results in
economy with an increase in production, services and exports, and a
fall in unemployment. Furthermore, the privatisation process of
the state portfolio is expected to be completed as are preparations
for implementing health and pension insurance reforms. Expected
are also the decentralisation of state functions and modernisation
of the state administration and public services, as well as the
promotion of political and economic relations with neighbours and
the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the
EU.
Prime Minister Ivica Racan asserted the government's tasks were
restricted by the proportions of the budget for this year, but
nevertheless, a number of outstanding issues can and should be
solved.
Racan thus presented the government and ministries with the task to
continue economising "to find solutions for some social needs
within the budget's proportions," such as bonuses for parents, for
example.
The chief tasks of economic policy will be the initiation of
investment activities and breathing life into production for
exports, assistance to the economy in conquering new markets,
stimulating tourism and agriculture.
A national human rights protection and promotion programme will be
drafted, a reform of local and regional self-government will be
carried out, an expert foundation for a change in the education
system will be established, etc.
The government forwarded to the parliament a draft law on the hail
prevention system, concluding a report on the effectiveness and
economy of the existing system should be completed within a year.
At today's session the government also adopted a development
project of social infrastructure and reintegration of returnees
into the multiethnic community in Glina.
Half of the cost of the project, worth 16.6 million kuna, will be
financed with a loan from the Council of Europe's Development
Bank.
