ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) - In the five years since its opening in the
Croatian capital, "Sheraton" hotel has achieved better results
than expected, said the hotel's director-general, Andjelko Leko,
in Zagreb on Tuesday, corroborating this statement with the fact
that the foreign currency earnings accounted for some 60 percent of
the entire income of the hotel in the said period.
Of the overall income, 66 percent was made through renting rooms,
and 34 accounted for other services.
Director Leko is expecting better business results in the coming
years thanks to the improvement of general conditions for business
in Croatia.
In the last five years, foreigners accounted for 90 percent of
accommodated guests in hotel's rooms, whereas Croatians made
bigger turnover in other sectors and services of the hotel such as
restaurants, Leko said.
The construction of Sheraton hotel in Zagreb started in 1987 and
finished in 1996. For this purpose 140 million German marks were
invested, and the hotel should yet settle about 10-million-debt
from loans. The debt is likely to be paid back in next six and a half
years, Leko told last evening's news conference, organised on the
occasion of the fifth anniversary of the hotel.
He also explained that this debt did not encumber the solvency of
the hotel which regularly paid salaries to its employees and all
other obligations.
The director-general of the chain of Sheraton hotels, Gunnar Sanne,
spoke about new programmes to be launched to enhance and equalise
the quality of services in all Sheraton hotels.
"Sheraton Hotel Zagreb" is a part of the corporation 'Starwood
Hotels and Resorts World Ide' with over 700 five-star hotels in 80
countries. Sheraton is one of five chains of hotels within the
corporation.
Sheraton in Zagreb employs 300 workers, has 320 deluxe rooms and
apartments, restaurants and bars.
In the past years, the hotel organised several important
conferences, economic and political events.
Croatia's Tourism Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic addressed the
present at the last night's ceremony of celebration of the fifth
anniversary of Sheraton in Zagreb.
