ZAGREB, Jan 14 (Hina) - The Croatian national parliament commences
its new season of sessions on Monday with the meeting of the House of
Counties constitution and rule book committee.
In the new season a new manner of the work will be applied in which
parliamentary committees are to hold meetings a week prior to
sessions of the Houses.
This is in compliance with a decision the Sabor Presidency has
recently made to improve the work of the lower and upper house and
prevent cases when some committees and a house were in session at
the same time, which was one of reasons for a lack of quorum for
voting in the Sabor.
Sabor officials believe this decision will be proved correct during
first meetings of MPs.
So far 60 topics have been proposed for parliamentary debates in the
spring. Some of those issues are a law on ownership transformation
and privatisation, the Croatian National Bank, the Croatian Radio
and Television, protection of consumers, a package of laws on
agriculture, house-building, a suggestion to relieve members of
the Croatian Judicial Council (DSV) from their duties, a government
report on 200 richest families, legal treatment of data labelled as
state secrets and so on.
It will be known which of these topics are moved to the agenda on 23
and 24 January when the House of Counties and the House of
Representatives respectively convene for the first time this
year.
