Thursday sent a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Zeljka Antunovic,
discontented that electricity has been turned off to its members,
Croats returning to pre-war homes, who are unable to pay for it.
The letter points to the fact that most benefits envisaged by a law
on areas of special government concern are not being enforced in the
Danube River Region in the east, and that the returnees are in a
difficult position.
According to the letter, due to difficult living conditions
"returnees have been brought in the position to withdraw children
from school because they are unable to pay for transport to school,
books, and often have no money even for bread."
The turning off of electricity to those unable to pay the bill is yet
another blow to returnees' life.
The association demands that the government stop the
implementation of a decision to that effect by the state power
utility company, HEP, and that it take measures to revive the
economy and provide new jobs.
