ZAGREB, Jan 8 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivica Racan said on Monday ideas like the one by President Stjepan Mesic on a public loan were welcome, but Croatia's current problem was not the lack of funds as much as the lack of good
programmes. "The Government must orientate itself towards that part of the job, because neither we nor Croatian banks are satisfied with the quality of programmes which are being offered for financing," Racan said. He added that significant loans for small and medium-sized businesses were being expected, however, it was questionable whether those loans would be 'covered' by good programmes. President Mesic presented the idea on a public loan for setting an economic cycle in motion in a recent 'Tjedni pregled - 007' television programme.(hina) rml
