HR-RACAN-Politika BRIEF NEWS BULLETIN IN ENGLISH NO. 3844 BRIEF NEWS BULLETIN IN ENGLISH NO. 3844HINA Zagreb 16 December 2000PM RACAN: PAST 11 MONTHS CRUCIAL FOR CROATIA'S FUTUREZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivica Racan on
Saturday assessed the past 11 months of the six-party coalition government as "difficult and successful, and in many ways crucial for the future course of events in Croatia." He was speaking at a Head Committee session of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), of which he is president. Racan said the government's policy in 2001 would be a "policy of restriction" and that there would be no increase in salaries. "This must be everybody's sacrifice in order to secure enough funds for the country's development." In the future, salaries in state administration, public services and companies must rise according to Gross Domestic Product, he said. Speaking about local elections, the prime minister said they would not be early, but held at the end of June. Gordana Sobol
