ZAGREB, Dec 30 (Hina) - About 15,000 unemployed people found jobs this year through employment stimulation programmes drawn up by the government and the Croatian Employment Institute (HZZ) will continue with these measures next year, the HZZ reported on Monday. #L# Since March, when the programmes were activated, until the end of November, 14,982 people found jobs, which exceeds the government's expected number of 14,029 for the year. Complete results of the programme will be released in January. Amongst those employed this year, the majority were trainees, people with previous working experience, war veterans, and middle- aged people. The "Learning towards a Job for All" programme, geared to employ trainees and retrain people with working experience in line with labour market requirements, provided jobs for 10,160 people although plans envisaged the employment of only 4,320. The "Jobs for War Veterans" programme was to have employed 962 people in 2002 when in fact 2,100 found jobs. Particularly good results were achieved through the "Experience towards Profit" programme, geared towards employing middle-aged workers with experience. Instead of the intended 268, 1,156 people found jobs. Some programmes failed compared to expectations, so next year these will have to be revised to make them more attractive for employers. This is particularly true for the "From the Classroom to the Workshop" and "A Chance for Us, Too" programmes, intended to employ young people in trades and disabled persons. Revisions will be done on the most touted programme, "From University towards a Job", which is aimed at facilitating the employment of young educated people up to 27 years of age. The programme was responsible for employing 1,103 students even though it was intended to find jobs for 7,050. Next year a special programme will be conducted for employment in the construction industry and shipbuilding as these are fields that have recorded the greatest employment growth recently. Employers received about 47.7 million kuna (6.44 million euros) up until December for employment programme subsidies, with the highest interest shown by businessmen in Zagreb, Split-Dalmatia and Osijek-Baranja counties.
