party leader Ivo Sanader. #L#
"Our visit to Dvor shows our determination to not only give all war-
affected Croatian area our moral and political support, but to show
our unity with their population and our commitment to care for the
least developed parts of the country," Sanader said.
He said the first law his party would pass once it regained power in
the country would be the one on changes to the law on areas of
special state concern, which would permanently bind the government
to invest into the economic revival of those areas.
Commenting on the reasons why his party supported a law on national
minorities, Sanader said the law provided another chance for modern
and democratic Croatia and for the democratisation of relations in
the Croatian society as existed in developed western European
countries. The law binds minorities to respect the highest
standards of democracy and Croatia as a common homeland, as well as
to abide by Croatian laws, Sanader said.
He also welcomed the adoption of a resolution on association with
the European Union, stating that the consensus of all parliamentary
parties on the document exceeded party interests and showed that
Croatia was firmly committed to joining the EU and deserved to be
admitted in line with the individual approach, instead of being a
"hostage to the situation in the region".
