ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's president and the

Coalitions are possible after the parliamentary election, and the
HSS will definitely "not be a slave to left and right divisions",
Tomcic said on Monday reiterating the assertion he made three days
ago at his party's general convention.
A possible future ruling coalition must first of all make an
agreement by consensus which will bind members of that coalition to
address major issues of national interest.
Tomcic called on all political parties to define key state issues
and try solve them together.
He believes that "Croats must finally realise that there are topics
on which all political parties must agree or the bids to come closer
to the European Union or NATO will take much more time."
Commenting on this year's work of the parliament, Tomcic said the
parliament did not have vary favourable work conditions due to the
"stormy political dynamics" which was the result of the departure
of the Social Liberals (HSLS) from the ruling coalition and the set-
up of new parties, and all of this caused a crisis in the
government.
The parliament, nevertheless, held 88 plenary sessions and 160
sessions of working bodies and passed 144 laws, Tomcic said.
He announced the establishment of a parliamentary body which would
be in charge of adjusting Croatian laws to the EU laws so as to ease
the job of the Sabor which is expected to discuss over 80 laws of
that kind in 2003.
