Civil servants will receive a 500 kuna Christmas bonus, a 400 kuna
children's bonus and a 600 kuna subsidy. The base for a jubilee
award has been increased from 1,750 to 1,800 kuna, and the longest
annual leave has been extended from 25 to 30 days.
The government refused a request for an additional 300 million kuna
for an increase in salaries for civil servants, which caused great
dissatisfaction among the unionists.
"There is too much good will, but too little money," Deputy Premier
Goran Granic said after the signing of the agreement. He expressed
hope that salary system would improve during the state
administration reform.
He stressed that state services must be completely depoliticised so
that professionalism could come to the fore. Racan called on unions
to assist the government in this endeavour.
The president of the Union of Civil Servants, Ivica Ihas, said the
unionists had signed the agreement "with a bitter taste in their
mouth" only so that their members would not lose the material rights
offered by the government.
