ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan has called on the Opposition to join the government in efforts to do everything necessary for Croatia to join the European Union as soon as possible. #L# This refers to a consensus on the issue, Racan stated after a meeting with the leaders of the ruling coalition on Monday evening. Racan expected that representatives of the coalition and opposition parties would meet in the next few days. The premier announced that on Thursday the government would discuss a National Programme for Admission to the European Union - 2003, which is in keeping with the plan on the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA). The coalition has suggested that the subject of consensus be a joint document, to be adopted by parliament, and a date for Croatia's application for full EU membership, Racan said. Racan said that January 15, 2003 should be the approximate date for the application. (hina) sp rml sb
