ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - Problems of regulation on the power market
were the subject matter of this year's international forum,
organised by the Croatian Power Society (HED). #L#
The society's president, Goran Granic said the Croatian government
was withdrawing from the job of defining prices for power sources so
as not to make decisions which might be too much or not enough
socially sensitive and not to bring consumers or companies in
unfavourable positions on the market.
Granic added that there were still no generally accepted standards
in this field, and every country addressed the issue individually.
Croatia has to learn how to protect consumers but also power
companies and what the regulatory bodies are, he added.
The one-day 11th forum pooled some 230 participants from Croatian
companies and lecturers from Austria, England, France, Italy,
Lithuania, Hungary, Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and
Ukraine.
According to the participants in the event, 15 percent of the global
population spends 50 percent of the produced power, while 75
percent of the world population spends only 35 percent, and almost
two billion people have no approach to the commercial power.
