The book in Italian and Croatian is a project Italian and Croatian
experts undertook to research 2,700 Croatian victims of Italian
nationality in the area of the northern Adriatic port of Rijeka. The
project was commissioned by the Croatian History Institute and the
Rome-based Society for Rijeka Studies, which was founded in 1960.
The book is an example of the historical cooperation between
Croatian and Italian scientists which is aimed at shedding light on
the sad events and on Croatian Italian victims, Society for Rijeka
Studies president Amleto Ballarini said. He added political
structures had kept these events in the dark for more than half a
century.
The publication of the book was welcomed by Italian Ambassador to
Croatia Fabio Pigliapoco, the president of the Italian Esuli
Alliance, Guido Brazzoduro, Croatia's Assistant Foreign Minister
Nenad Prelog, Deputy Culture Minister Biserka Cvjeticanin, and
Croatian History Institute director Mirko Valentic.
