ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday adopted a law on contributions to be paid for compulsory insurance, and the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) succeeded in averting the government's proposal for much higher
contributions to be paid by farmers.

law on contributions to be paid for compulsory insurance, and the
Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) succeeded in averting the
government's proposal for much higher contributions to be paid by

The government, the sponsor of the law, accepted the HSS's
amendments under which 97 percent of farmers who possess on average
2.9 hectares of land would pay contributions higher by only 35 kuna
than before.
MPs adopted amendments to the Pension Insurance Law, and endorsed
amendments to the Penal Code in the first reading, which they had
debated on Thursday.
Vice President of the Sabor, Mato Arlovic, announced a debate on the
draft budget for 2003 for next Friday.
