ZAGREB, Nov 28 (Hina) - At Thursday's session, the government presented its salary policy for next year according to which the basic salary would remain at this year's level. i.e. 4,232 kuna (approx. 575 euros), Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic reported. #L# Next year, coefficients will not be changed for public service salaries with only minor adjustments to the coefficient for workers in science and health. Priorities in the determination of salaries will be given to primary and secondary school employees. Some 200 million kuna (272,000 euros) more has been envisaged for the salaries of teachers than was in the budget for 2002. Additional incentives for science and education were confirmed by the government with special conclusions. In this regard, for equipment purchased for research activities, the VAT would be refunded from the budget. Next year the budget will cover half the costs of education and training programmes for young experts abroad. It is estimated that there may be between 200 and 300 such cases. It was also concluded that funding will be ensured for research in the economy as well as additional funding from the Science and Higher Education Foundation, while the government has committed itself to secure an additional minimum of 201 million kuna (approx. 273,000 euros) to settle the costs of shares in the government's portfolio.
