ZAGREB, Nov 27 (Hina) - According to information of the Education and Sports Ministry, 113 primary and secondary schools, a total of 9.9 percent of schools in Croatia, did not have lessons in the morning shift because of a one-day strike organised by a coordinating body of school unions. #L# One hundred and thirty schools, or 11.4 percent, had lessons partially, while classes were conducted regularly at 812 schools, or 71.3 percent of all schools in Croatia. The ministry described today's strike as unnecessary because negotiations on teachers' salaries with public services unions were underway. The Independent Union of High School Employees and the "Preporod" school union said 85 percent of high school employees took part in the strike. Of the total of 330 high schools in Croatia, about thirty functioned regularly, while some 80 primary schools were on strike as well, unionists say. The coordinating body of five school unions on Wednesday organised a day-long strike requesting a 20 percent increase in salaries for employees in primary and high schools so that they reach the level of salaries of other budgetary users. Unofficial sources have reported that the government will allegedly offer an eight to ten percent increase in salaries. (hina) lml sb
