About 2,000 employees gathered at today's protest, unions said.
A union leader, Ivica Kenda, said "workers will not give up on their
requests which were the reason for the start of their protests."
"We expect to get the (last) late salary which was promised to us by
Vice-Premier Slavko Linic, and that the government will on Thursday
make a decision on securing the payment of minimum wages to the
ironworks and Caprag company employees until a new strategic
partner and new owner take over the company," Kenda said. He
threatened with new protests if the government did not fulfil the
union requests.
He informed the workers that a meeting had been called about the
situation in the ironworks for Wednesday at the government's Social
Partnership Office in Zagreb.
The next gathering of the two plants' employees has been sheduled
for December 2 at the main entrance to the ironworks plant. Workers
will then be informed about talks with the government concerning
the payment of their wages until a new owner turns up.
