Those are the first men from Croatia's public life to join such a
campaign, which will wrap up on 6 December, Human Rights Day.
During the next 16 days, a petition will be signed throughout
Croatia in which men condemn violence against women.
Interior Minister Sime Lucin said the number of reports on violence
against women had been increasing in recent years, however this was
not the result of increased violence but of the raised awareness of
women, better legal frameworks and the engagement of society.
This year, the police registered 15 cases of domestic violence on
average every day. Thus, according to the figures, it can be said
that every 90 minutes a woman is attacked in her home. In more than a
half of cases the victims are wives, while attacks by fathers on
their daughters account for 20 percent of those cases.
