ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - According to analysts of the Croatian
National Bank (HNB), the physical indicators show that the tourist
season in Croatia this year lasted longer than in 2001. #L#
The indicators reflect the extension of the tourist season to
months before the peak of the season, i.e. to April, May and June,
while there are still no clear signs that the season was
significantly prolonged in the post-season period (September and
October).
The season was extended around Easter holidays, which were this
year in early April (Easter was on 31 March), when a significant
rise in the number of foreign guests was registered. The number of
Croatian tourists increased in May, which was attributed to a few
national holidays, read a statement issued by the analysts in the
HNB's latest bulletin.
According to figures about average number of overnight stays,
domestic guests had more overnight stays only at the peak of the
season. Croatian guests then spent on average about six nights
outside their place of residence, while this figure is 2.5
overnight stays for the rest of the year.
Foreign holiday-makers spent on average three nights in tourist
facilities before and after the season, while at the peak of the
season this figure was seven overnight stays.
The data about the tourist turnover show that Croatia had not
registered any increase in the arrivals and overnight stays in
July, for the second consecutive year. The figure is some two
million tourists and some 5.7 million overnight stays. This
stagnation is ascribed to the limited accommodation capacities.
Therefore, the improvement can be achieved though better offer for
possibilities for spending on extras.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, 7.7 million tourists
visited Croatia in first nine months this year or by six percent
more than in the same period last year. They realised 43 million
overnight stays (a three-percent rise in comparison to the last
year's January-September period).
