RIJEKA, Nov 25 (Hina) - At the trial of the so-called Gospic Group on
Monday, the president of the panel of judges, Ika Saric, presented a
few documents so far added as evidence in the trial. #L#
This refers to the documentation of Gospic police about persons who
went missing from the area in the beginning of the was and about a
police investigation in barrels which were found at Rizvanusa near
Gospic and which contained remains of persons killed at Paulin Dvor
(near Osijek).
Judge Saric announced that in the course of the day the recorded
statements, which the then Gospic police chief Ivan Dasovic gave in
late 1991 to the then head of the crime police within the Croatian
Interior Ministry, Smiljan Reljic, would be transcribed. According
to that record, Dasovic spoke about abductions and killings of
civilians in the Gospic area. He also said that during an execution
of civilians, a defendant, Mirko Norac, personally killed a man,
and that Tihomir Oreskovic, another defendant, was the most
responsible person for the developments.
Reljic and Dasovic will testify about the authenticity of the
recorded statement on Wednesday.
Croatia's Supreme Court has ruled that the statement in question
may be a part of evidence.
Oreskovic, Norac, and another three defendants in the Gospic Group
- Ivica Rozic, Stjepan Grandic and Milan Canic - are indicted for
the organisation of abductions and killings of some local 40
civilians, who are mostly of the Serb origin, in autumn 1991.
The trial will resume tomorrow.
