ZAGREB, Nov 18 (hina) - The promise about the payment of wages to

Russian strategic partner should be terminated and the government
should try to find a better strategic partner within further
bankruptcy proceedings, Prime Minister Ivica Racan said on Monday
commenting on the latest events in Sisak Ironworks. #L#
At 8AM Monday, about 1,000 Sisak Ironworks workers, led by unions,
took over the factory and management building to control work and
management in the factory and protect its property and workers,
because the sales contract with Russia's Trubo Impex has not yet
been terminated. The unions have also founded a co-ordinating body
in charge of ensuring the factory's survival and preventing lay-
offs.
Racan told Croatian Radio that selecting Trubo Impex as a strategic
partner was obviously a bad choice.
Commenting on claims about a strike wave to include the education
system and public services, Racan said some demands for wage
increases amounting to up to 50 percent were not realistic, because
there was no money.
