ZAGREB, Nov 15 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivica Racan said in
parliament on Friday by giving a guarantee to General Janko Bobetko
he did not ignoring the rule-of-law. He said this was a humanitarian
gesture, motivated by general Bobetko's condition. #L#
Racan said he had personally guaranteed to Bobetko that he would not
be extradited and forcibly served with an indictment while in
hospital exclusively due to general's condition.
"If my guarantee was of any help in solving the problem, and it was,
than I assume all the responsibility," Racan said at the beginning
of a parliament session on Friday, informing MPs of the reasons why
the government had decided to forward through the justice ministry
the entire file in the Bobetko case to the competent county court
for further procedure.
Racan's address in parliament was requested by the Croatian Social
Liberal Party (HSLS) bench on Thursday.
The parliament resumed its 26th session with a debate on the 2003
state budget, after it once again failed to confirm personnel
changes in its committees. Personnel changes in committees,
resulting from the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) leaving the
ruling coalition, were moved by the Elections, Nominations and
Administration Committee.
