About 1.6 million Slovenes are registered as eligible voters, and
they should choose the successor to the incumbent president, Milan
Kucan, whose second and the last term of office is expiring.
Of nine candidates who are running in the presidential race, the
current prime minister Janez Drnovsek stands the best chances to
win. He is followed by a former state prosecutor, Barbara
Berzigar.
