the success of national parties in a recent general election in the
country. #L#
Bond told the Croat radio station Herceg Bosna in Mostar that his
country would respect election results and resume its engagement in
Bosnia.
On several previous occasions Bond said that he would not meet
representatives of national parties (Croatian Democratic Union,
Serb Democratic Party and the Party of Democratic Action) and
openly opposed their coming to power regardless of election
results. He also stated that the US would withhold assistance if
national parties came to power.
In his statement last night Bond was less categorical and said that
the inclusion of national parties in bodies of authority would
restrict cooperation with the US government, for the first time not
dismissing the possibility of cooperation with local authorities
which could include national parties.
