TRIESTE, Oct 29 (Hina) - A meeting of foreign ministers of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative in Trieste ended on Tuesday afternoon with the adoption of a joint statement.

Adriatic-Ionian Initiative in Trieste ended on Tuesday afternoon
with the adoption of a joint statement. #L#
In the statement, the ministers point to progress in the
strengthening of bilateral relations in the light of aspirations of
countries in the region to become a part of European associations.
The ministers also underlined progress in the political climate in
south-east Europe and progress achieved in the fight against
organised crime and trafficking in humans.
Italy's Premier and Foreign Minister Silvio Berlusconi said the
problem of illegal migrations and crime would be tackled at a
special meeting, which the Initiative member-states' interior
ministers would hold next month.
According to a statement released after the meeting, the importance
of round table debates on harmonised efforts in tourism and small
businesses was highlighted as well.
The Trieste meeting also revolved around the construction of an
integrated transport system.
The ministers welcomed a decision on the set-up of a pan-European
corridor and supported a project for the so-called Adriatic-Ionian
motorway.
Besides Berlusconi who chaired the meeting, present at the session
were Assistant Greek Foreign Minister Tasos Giannitsih, and the
foreign ministers of Slovenia, Dimitrij Rupel, of Croatia, Tonino
Picula, of Albania, Ilir Meta, of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Zlatko
Lagumdzija and of Yugoslavia, Goran Svilanovic.
