SARAJEVO/BANJA LUKA, Oct 19 (Hina) - The Party of Democratic Action
(SDA) has challenged the accuracy of final and official results of
recent general elections in Bosnia issued by the Electoral
Commission on Saturday. #L#
The SDA was the first to issue a statement reacting to the electoral
results which do not secure any national party the necessary
majority in the Bosnian parliament's House of Representatives,
stating that the seats had been distributed contrary to provisions
of the Electoral Law.
The SDA does not accept the interpretation of the law by the
Electoral Commission, according to which all parties which took
part in the elections had the right to compensation mandates,
whether or not they passed the electoral threshold of three
percent.
The party has announced that it would use all available legal means
to contest the Electoral Commission's decision.
Similar reactions came from some parties in Republika Srpska.
Several hours after the announcement of official results,
representatives of the Party of Independent Social Democrats
(SNSD) and Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) said they would also
challenge the allocation of compensation mandates.
SNSD spokesman Igor Radojicic said the biggest problem was that the
new parliament should function with an entire series of small
parties, which would make it impossible to form stable coalitions.
The president of the Bosnian Electoral Commission, Lidija Korac,
earlier dismissed criticism pertaining to the allocation of
compensation seats.
She said that the Bosnian Court of Appeals would have the final say,
and the Commission was ready to fully respect the court's
decision.
