Some experts maintain that small share-holders and domestic
companies might become co-owners of the company, while part of the
shares would go to the Catholic Church as compensation for
confiscated property.
Talks with Allianz were terminated after the German company
declined to improve its offer. Slovenia's Triglav, which remains a
bidder for 51 percent of Croatia Osiguranje shares, has legal
problems in connection with ownership issues.
The government does not intend to undertake a privatisation that
would damage Croatia, Prime Minister Ivica Racan said earlier this
week. He said the government would consider some new possibilities,
even outside privatisation, aimed at turning Croatia Osiguranje
into a strong regional insurance company.
