ZAGREB, Oct 18 (Hina) - Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic on Friday
suggested that unions freeze a social agreement - "Partnership for
Development" - for six months so that consensus can be reached
between those who support the document and its implementation. #L#
Granic made the suggestion in a letter to the Croatian Association
of Unions (HUS) Zdenko Mucnjak whose union backed out of the
agreement on Wednesday.
HUS has withdrawn from the pact assessing that Croatia does not have
any continual social dialogue an the agreement has not even begun to
be implemented because the documents required for this have not
been adopted.
In his letter, Granic pointed out that it was difficult to harmonise
these documents because of additional demands by social partners
which have appeared after the documents had been prepared for
adoption in the Government.
He rejected Mucnjak's evaluation that Croatia did not have
continual social dialogue, pointing out that the unions were
involved in the privatisation process and social reforms.
This social pact signed by the Government, employers and four
unions later last year was already abandoned by the Federation of
Independent Unions of Croatia (SSSH) and the Association of
Workers' Unions (URSH). Only the Federation of Croatian Unions of
Public Servants is still involved in the pact.
