In continuation of its 25th sitting the parliament discussed a
Report on the Business of HRT in the first half of this year as well
as a supplementary report on the work of the Steering Board of HRT.
With regard to the separation between television and radio, MPs
claimed that this task was running behind schedule and that it was
not an easy task to conduct. MPs also expressed the concern that
Croatian Radio would find it difficult to become competitive in the
market race compared to other commercial radio stations. In order
for the said division to be conducted as best as possible and as soon
as possible, the Sabor requested to receive long awaited bill on the
matter.
A debate on TV topics soon turned into a debate about TV programmes.
Most MPs (both from the ruling parties and the Opposition) admitted
that the programme had been improved but they criticised it for a
lack of topics concerning life.
The opposition - Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and Democratic
Centre (DC) - continued to insist on the monitoring of the
representation of political parties on TV in certain current
affairs programmes.
MPs discussed a report on the activities of the Board of HRT from
July 2000 to March 2002 and objected for its lateness, lack of
assessment of previously awarded concessions and the lack of data
relating to the ownership structure of concessionaires.
