Economic independence will help HRT protect political and
professional independence and invest in development, Galic said at
the end of a debate on a report on HRT's operations in the January-
June 2002 period.
There are still irregularities and illegal activities but much less
than before, said Galic.
Revenue from marketing over the last two years doubled, which will
help HRT invest 100 million kuna in the digitalisation of the
television and radio programme this year, said Galic.
In response to MPs' numerous objections regarding HRT's programme,
HRT Council president Vlatko Silobrcic said he could account only
for the work of the Council, and that he would refer all objections
to the editor-in-chief.
He responded to criticism that the HRT Council did not comprise
experts by stating that this was a question for the legislator who,
he said, wanted the Council to include the entire Croatian public,
not solely experts.
