PODGORICA, Oct 3 (Hina) - The office of the Montenegrin President,
Milo Djukanovic, on Wednesday refuted a statement by the Austrian
news agency (APA), which said that Djukanovic had given an order for
the shelling of Dubrovnik. #L#
"At the time of operations of the JNA (the then Yugoslav People's
Army) on the Dubrovnik front, Djukanovic was Montenegrin Premier.
Not only did he not give an order for the shelling of Dubrovnik, but
could not have done so, since he had no such powers, according to the
Constitution," read a statement issued from Djukanovic's Office.
In a commentary on the future relations between Montenegro and
Serbia, the news agency stated that Djukanovic, as a Milosevic
follower, "gave an order for the destruction of the old city of
Dubrovnik."
"We would like to believe that this untruth is a consequence of a
lack of knowledge of the matter, and not an intention to distort the
facts as to discredit the democratic and reform-oriented image of
Montenegro," the statement added.
