"Agricultural trade between Croatia and Romania is modest and the
negotiations proved to be very difficult, but the most important
issue is that a successful agreement has been reached and finally
the case has been placed ad acta." a member of the Croatian
delegation at the CEFTA Summit, Deputy Economy Minister, Miroslav
Bozic, said.
The delegation also consists of Vice-Premier Slavko Linic and
Assistant Economy Minister Olgica Spevec.
The most important issue for Croatia is that a balanced agreement
for the most sensitive products has been reached, Bozic said.
Besides bilateral talks about free trade with all CEFTA members
(Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania),
Croatia should also have an agreement on associate membership in
the EU and be a member of the World Trade Organisation in order to
become full member of CEFTA.
Until now, the only obstacle to Croatia joining the organisation
was the free trade agreement with Romania, that is, an agreement on
the liberalisation of trade in agricultural products, which was
resolved in Bratislava on Saturday.
The Croatian delegation received a written confirmation that the
talks with Romania had been concluded.
