"Our two countries have strong bonds of a friendship based on the
democratic values we share. People who were forced to live without
freedom know its value and rightly oppose those who wish to endanger
it," Bush says in the note.
He stresses the United States is proud to have Croatia as an ally in
efforts to stop the endangerment of freedom through terror.
"We are especially grateful for your contribution to peace,
freedom, and progress. With perseverance and courage, we shall
realise these shared goals," Bush wrote in the note.
In his answer, Mesic reminds the US leader that Croatia "is actively
cooperating in the struggle against international terrorism in
various fields, in line with its possibilities, and will continue
with this cooperation." He added that Croatia would advocate long-
term action aimed at eliminating environments breeding terrorism.
"Global terrorism calls for a global response. I believe that the
United Nations is the only and irreplaceable organisation which can
give that response the due and necessary legitimacy," Mesic said in
his answer to Bush.
