ZAGREB, Sept 25 (Hina) - President of the Liberal Party (LS) Zlatko
Kramaric commenting on Wednesday evening's address to the nation by
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, estimated that it served as a
tactics for the Croatian government to use legal attempts to
dispute elements of the Hague-based indictment "for which we
believe there is sufficiently justified reason to dispute". #L#
I believe that the most important thing is that the public should
not be given the impression that the President is in a different
position compared to the Croatian Government and Sabor," Kramaric
stated.
He estimated that Mesic's approach was universal because he spoke
about certain obligations Croatia has towards the international
community but also leaves space for manoeuvring for the government
to dispute sections of the indictment for this individual case -
i.e. the Bobetko case, particularly in the first point of the
indictment which leaves suspicion that the UN tribunal is
questioning the legitimacy of the Medak Pocket action.
LS leader said the Croatian President distinguished the action as
being legitimate but unfortunately the crimes that were committed
during it have not been tried. This is a good message for Croatia's
judiciary because it is the most relevant institution that could
protect the dignity of the Homeland War, national interests and the
interest of individuals, LS president Kramaric concluded.
