SARAJEVO, Sept 20 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has
urged Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina to vote in the general election
on Oct. 5. #L#
In an interview with the Sarajevo-based daily "Dnevni avaz", Mesic
called on Bosnian Croats to go to the polls en masse, to examine
candidates' programmes and place their trust in the option offering
the best guarantee for the building and strengthening of democracy
and civil society. That is the future, not only for Bosnia, he
said.
Mesic advocated the furtherance of Croatia-Bosnia relations,
stating there is no reason why identity cards should not suffice for
the two countries' citizens to be able to cross the Croatia-Bosnia
border.
Commenting on Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica's recent
statements contesting Bosnia's territorial integrity, Mesic said
everybody should realise the time of conflicts on the territory of
the former Yugoslavia was over, and that Kostunica's statements
should be viewed in the light of his current electoral campaign for
Serbia's president.
Mesic confirmed he would testify at the trial of former Yugoslav
President Slobodan Milosevic at the Hague-based UN war crimes
tribunal.
He said he could not reveal what he would say, but stated, "Be sure
of one thing, I will speak the truth."
The Croatian President also said he was not too concerned about
reports that he might be the target of an assassination.
