ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - Representatives of a few war veterans' associations, on Friday gathered in front of the Croatian government's building and in front of the St Mark's Church to protest against, they say, the brutality exercised
over Croatian veterans-policemen, who had been dismissed from the police with no valid reason and who had staged a rally in front of the government offices in a bid to get re-employment.

The leader of the association called Independent Volunteers of
Croatia, Slavica Hruskar, called on the government to cease "this
circus".
She said they had asked to be immediately received by Premier Ivica
Racan for talks on the issue.
She accused the current authorities of being brutal in the
treatment of Croatian veterans since they had come in power in
January 2000.
The head of the "Apel" centre for the protection of human rights of
detained and missing Croatian citizens, Zdenka Farkas, said they
had forwarded a letter to Premier Racan, asking for the final
settlement of the problem of 33 policemen who were, she said,
unfairly and unlawfully dismissed from the interior ministry.
They also urged the cancellation of the interior ministry's
decision on the ban on the protest.
Leaders of the war veterans' associations gathered in the square to
express their support to the remaining six protesters, who are
currently in St Mark's Church.
