SARAJEVO, Sept 12 (Hina) - The Council of Ministers of Bosnia-
Herzegovina on Thursday adopted a decision on the quality of liquid
fuel imported into the country which will at the same time limit the
opportunities to distribute petroleum products produced in INA
(the Croatian state-run oil company) refineries, especially in
Sisak. #L#
The decision on the quality of liquid fuel has been in preparation
for more than six months and it represents much stricter ecological
standards for oil and petroleum products that will in future be used
on the Bosnian market.
The decision should motivate domestic production, ensure better
environment protection as well as consumer protection, Treasury
Minister in the ministerial council Anto Domazet said.
The decision introduces standards for the quality of petroleum
products applied in the European Union, and this particularly
relates to the level of sulphur contained in imported fuel.
Until now, fuel imported to B-H was subject to old Yugoslav
standards (JUS) which allowed up to 1 per cent concentration of
sulphur in petroleum products, while now that level will be ten
times lower.
Fuel produced in the INA refinery in Sisak does not fulfil the new
criteria and so as of today fuel from Sisak will not be allowed to
enter Bosnia and the Rijeka oil plant could be in a similar
position.
The only refinery that exists in Bosnia - located in Bosanski Brod -
will be privileged and given additional time to adapt to the new
standards which already have to be adhered to by importers from
abroad
