The talks revolved around the coming parliamentary elections in
Macedonia, set for 15 September, the security situation in the
country, and Skopje's bids to join EuroAtlantic integration
processes.
The parliamentary poll must be peaceful, fair and democratic, the
EU official said.
Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski urged the international
community to support the efforts of relevant Macedonian bodies to
ensure conditions for a free and democratic expression of the will
of the citizens, particularly in the Tetovo region, which was
recently the venue of several incidents, said a statement released
by Trajkovski's office.
After his stay in Skopje, Solana is to fly to Belgrade and meet the
leaders of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro in a bid to speed up
the adoption of a constitutional charter on the future state
community of the two republics.
