The new tariff system will become effective on September 1.
According to the new system, the price of kWh for single-tariff
metres will be 60 lipa, 64 lipa for dual-tariff meters during
daytime and 32 lipa during the night. All households will pay a
uniform 15-kuna monthly compensation.
Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic said this proposal was in line with
last week's government decision to turn down a proposal by the HEP
power utility company whereby the price of electricity for
households was to increase by an average 15.2 percent.
The price of electricity for industry and entrepreneurs will not
increase.
After the implementation of the new tariff system, HEP's revenue
would increase by 4.5 percent, Jurcic said.
According to the government, large consumers, namely those
spending more than 5,000 kWh of electricity per year, will carry the
biggest burden of the increase in price.
Government members said that announcement on increase in prices of
other products, such as bread, were unnecessary.
