The protest was held against the arrest of five senior officials of
the former Kosovo Liberation Army.
Police had banned the staging of the protest in downtown Decani,
suggesting it be held in a town park. The protesters did not agree to
this and accused the police of causing an incident.
The UN Mission said in a statement that special units of the KFOR
peace-keepers intervened after the protesters blocked a road. The
units used tear gas and smoke bombs to disperse the protesters, who
stoned the international police.
