The ministry warns in the note that Slovene fishing boats continue
to fish in Croatia's territorial waters despite the agreement
between the co-chairpersons of a joint commission in charge of
implementing the Agreement on Local Border Traffic and
Cooperation, reached in Mokrice (Slovenia) on August 14, 2002. At
the meeting the two sides agreed that efforts should be made to calm
down the current situation.
According to the statement, between 15 and 21 August this year, more
than 20 Slovene fishing boats or trawlers entered and fished in
Croatia's territorial waters, which in no way contributes to
dissolving tensions and finding a satisfactory solution.
The Foreign Ministry believes it is necessary to stop the illegal
fishing by Slovene fishermen west from the demarcation line in the
middle of Piran Bay, which is in the mutual interest so that
incidents could be avoided, the statement read.
