After the Supreme Court on July 31 revoked a decision by Split
County Court judge Slavko Lozina to release seven suspects accused
for war crimes in the Lora military jail from custody, five have
been returned while Miljenko Bajic and Josip Bikic are still being
traced by the police.
The seven former military policemen - Tonci Vrkic, Miljenko Bajic,
Josip Bikic, Davor Banic, Emilio Bungur, Ante Gudic and Andjelko
Botic spent ten months in custody and were released on July 22 when
Split County Court released them on bail.
The Split County Prosecution however, appealed against this
decision considering that there was sufficient reason for the
accused to remain in detention, and later the Supreme Court upheld
the appeal.
The trial in the "Lora" case will continue on September 19 when 16
people from Montenegro and Serbia will testify as alleged victims
and witnesses of the crimes committed in the Lora prison in Split.
