the Milan Zec case. #L#
The Tribunal has recently announced that it withdrew an indictment
against Zec due to a lack of evidence.
Zec was the commander of the Kumbor military district during the
Yugoslav army's aggression against Dubrovnik and its surrounding
in 1991, and is believed to have been responsible for the shelling
of this Adriatic resort in 1991.
In December 1992, the Dubrovnik Prosecutor's Office launched an
investigation against Zec on suspicion of war crimes against the
civilian population and the destruction of the cultural heritage of
this Croatian town, included in UNESCO World Heritage List.
The local office of prosecution discontinued the process in
December 2000 when the UN tribunal in The Hague took over the case.
Zagreb also asks the ICTY to expound its decision on the
cancellation of the indictment against this Yugoslav general, the
Croatian government's public relations office reported.
The Croatian prosecution will decide on the continuation of the
investigation after it receives the relevant documents from the
ICTY's prosecution.
