IDS vice president Damir Kajin and LS president Zlatko Kramaric on
Tuesday said at a press conference in Rovinj that they opposed any
incidents that could result due to the frequent excesses that have
occurred recently in the bay and which could be difficult to
control.
"We support a civilised solution to the problem of Piran Bay, and
even international arbitration if an agreement cannot be reached
between Croatia and Slovenia," Kajin claimed.
He added that Croatia must be aware that arbitration means that
politically one side will gain and the other lose, and the side that
loses will sooner or later want revenge.
It is more than likely that arbitration could disappoint both
sides, seeing that Croatia would probably not be able to determine
the demarcation line along the middle of the bay, nor would Slovenia
gain the demarcation the two countries' premiers initialled.
"I am under the impression that both Croatia and Slovenia are acting
along the line 'who gives in first loses all.' It is illusory to
expect some sudden easing of tension, even though we all believe
that reason will win over in the end," Kajin concluded.
