Remi was arrested in downtown Pristina by the UN Mission police,
with assistance from KFOR's British troops. The arrest was carried
out at the request of the international prosecutor, on charges
alleging the torture and killing of at least five unlawfully
detained persons.
The Zeri daily brings a message Remi sent his friends through his
attorney, claiming he is innocent and proud of what he did for his
people during the Kosovo war.
According to the Epoka e Re newspaper, Remi's arrest continues the
campaign against prominent ex-KLA fighters.
Remi was one of the top KLA officials. After the war he was a senior
official of the Kosovo Protection Corps, from which he was ousted
last summer. This followed after US President George Bush's
blacklisted Remi as a person dangerous for peace and security in
Kosovo and the region.
