SARAJEVO, Aug 8 (Hina) - A law suit filed by Bosnia-Herzegovina
against Yugoslavia for aggression and genocide committed in 1993
before the International Court of Justice in The Hague will not be
financed with funds from the government budget, the Bosnian Council
of Ministers decided on Thursday. #L#
The Council chairman, Dragan Mikerevic, told reporters in Sarajevo
that the request by the Bosnian Presidency to grant EUR95,000 from
the budget in order to continue with the suit against Yugoslavia was
not endorsed. He said that he had personally voted against the
proposal.
Authorities in Republika Srpska, who have for years opposed the
continuation of processes in The Hague and asked for a withdrawal of
suits against the Belgrade regime, announced that all Bosnian Serb
officials would block any such requests for funding.
Such a move was already made in the state assembly and now in the
Council of Ministers where all decisions require a consensus to be
passed.
Following the decision by the Council of Ministers relating to
funding suits against Yugoslavia, the Bosnian Federation
government will most probably take over the financing of the
lawsuit from private foundations such as the "Justice for Bosnia"
foundation.
The foundation was founded in July for the sheer purpose of securing
the continuation of funding the process against Yugoslavia. It is
expected that contributions by wealthy individuals could be
sufficient to continue the process in The Hague.
