Yugoslav army border units, he said, issued three warnings to the
crews of four boats who were rowing towards the Sarengrad islet and
only then fired warning shots into the water next to the boats after
which 24 Croatian and 1 Yugoslav citizen were taken in, questioned
and after two and a half hours released to the police who returned
them to Croatia.
Colonel Milosavljevic rejected claims that the army deliberately
incited the incident and added that the event would not have been
given any publicity had Croatian politicians not been involved.
