VUKOVAR, July 29 (Hina) - The Vukovar branch of the Croatian
People's Party (HNS) in a statement on Monday condemned an armed
incident that occurred on Sunday on the Danube river. #L#
We sharply condemn the brutal and illegal behaviour of
irresponsible individuals in the Yugoslav army who indicate
elements of 'Greater Serbian' nationalism and who unscrupulously
exploit their service, the Vukovar branch HNS statement said.
The Vukovar-Srijem branch of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS)
also deplored the incident.
We expect some concrete moves by the Serb side which will satisfy
Sarengrad residents and in which the Serb side would show its regret
and offer its apologies for this incident, the HSS statement said.
The unilateral provocation with the incident by the Yugoslav army,
was also condemned on Monday by the Vukovar-Srijem branch of the
Croatian True Revival (HIP). It is evident that this was a
deliberate act that violates the sovereignty of Croatia by
Yugoslavia with far-reaching intentions and repercussions that
relate to all border conflicts between the two countries, the HIP
stated.
HIP also stated that Croatian senior officials allowed themselves
to be humiliated by Yugoslav officials after the incident. They
believe that Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic humiliated
them with his informal approach at the bridge by Ilok and when
Yugoslav Ambassador Milan Simurdic rejected to accept a protest
note by Croatia's Foreign Minister.
Prime Minister Designate Ivica Racan and Croatian Sabor President
Zlatko Tomcic should have energetically and clearly protected
Croatia's border and ensured the security of citizens and
sovereignty on Croatia's entire territory, the statement by HIP
noted.
